My Smart Fortwo keeps setting off the alarm for no reason. It seems like the car thinks the hood is open. Has anyone else had this problem?

To temporarily resolve this issue, many owners tried pushing the "tow" button on the key fob before locking the car, it effectively deactivates the alarm and prevents it from sounding unexpectedly especially in the middle of the night.

I’ve seen this come up before. Before replacing anything, try checking if the hood latch is properly aligned, it might not be pressing the switch firmly. Also, a zip tie or some padding on the switch can help as a temporary fix. If you’re not comfortable fiddling with it, a local mechanic should be able to sort it out quickly and cheaply.

I had this issue where the alarm was going off at night because of the wind. I put some glue in front of the switch to stop it.

It could be a sensor glitch or some loose connections acting up. A quick peek at the hood sensor, making sure it's nice and clean, and firmly connected might help!

The alarm hasn’t gone off since I taped over the plunger under the hood. I know it’s not a permanent fix, but I’m pretty sure the plunger is the issue.
