Anyone out there who's repaired their electric Smart bofre? I gotta admit, I was nervous about the high-voltage stuff, but turns out the 3rd generation is built tough and most repairs are familiar for mechanics who've worked on regular cars. Even the fancy chargers weren't too bad. So if you're thinking about giving it a go yourself, don't be intimidated.

I do most of the maintenance on my Smart myself. It's now at 60k miles and has proven to be incredibly reliable. Repairs are usually simple, with the exception of anything electrical.

This is inspiring! I haven’t tried any major repairs yet, but I’ve always wondered how approachable the high-voltage components actually are. What tools or safety gear would you recommend to someone starting out? Also, how did you learn to handle the charging system, trial and error, or did you find a good guide? I’m definitely bookmarking this for when I get braver!

Glad to hear everything went smoothly! It’s super comforting knowing the 3rd gen Smart is built to last and that the mechanics have got your back. Plus, tackling those DIY repairs? Such a satisfying experience!

Absolutely! There's just something downright badass about getting your hands dirty and tackling repairs yourself…and knowing the 3rd gen is solid just adds that extra layer of confidence. Tbh it’s kinda awesome how EVs are slowly becoming less of a ‘’black box’’ and more DIY-friendly.

I completely agree! EVs are getting easier and easier to work on. With all these new tools and the car sharing more data, we'll be able to do more ourselves. Maybe mechanics won't be as needed in the future, especially for routine stuff.
