A few days ago, our 2015 Smart ED hit 50k miles. It started as a commuter vehicle but became essential for family care and helping our kids. Since retirement, we drive it less, around 300 miles a month, but it's still our preferred car. Maintenance has been minimal, and I’ve done a few upgrades for better handling. With only slight battery degradation, we plan to keep it for many more years as long as the battery holds up. It’s still a joy to drive and gets lots of attention...

Great story! When we bought our first one new, I hoped to get ten years out of it. Now, as it approaches ten years, I'm aiming for fifteen! We loved it so much that we now have a 2014 and a 2015, both with around 30,000 miles. They’ve been by far the easiest and cheapest cars to maintain.

I appreciate well-maintained cars with a lot of miles on them. However, I believe that the age of the car is just as important as its mileage. Even in electric vehicles, rubber parts and other components wear out over time.

So you'll need to keep an eye on things or have someone else do them for you.

It’s great to hear how reliable they’ve been. I’m hoping our Smart ED will continue to serve us well for years.

You’re absolutely right...I’m keeping an eye on the age-related wear and tear, especially with rubber parts, and staying on top of maintenance.

That’s awesome to hear! I agree with @4enz.dzn, even with barely any miles, those sneaky little things like seals and even battery health can totally creep up on you. It’s great you’re staying on top of it! Keeping a car for that long definitely builds a real bond. Sounds like it’s been a solid ride for you all!
