A friend of mine recently faced a situation where their 2016 Smart Car Electric Drive's battery died completely. No lights, no power, and the car couldn’t be shifted into neutral to move it. They’re looking for ideas on how to deal with this issue before calling a tow truck. Does anyone know if there’s a manual override or specific procedure to put the car into neutral when the battery is dead?

Yours has the 12V battery. In the older one, it's under the passenger seat. In the newer one, it's under the hood. You need that battery to start the car, even though it's electric.

Did this ever happen before? When was the last time you used the car before the issue? Usually this happens when you haven;t used it for a while.

But first, you have to make sure the 12-volt battery good. Give it a jump or a charge if it needs it.

I agree with @impatzu, this tends to happen when the car’s been idle for a bit. So just a heads up, never pop it in park if you're leaving it for a while or not driving it regularly. This way, you can roll it around in neutral whenever you need to without any hassle!

How old is that battery? Is it the original one that came with the car? Sounds like it might be time for a new one.
