I recently bought a 2015 Smart EQ Fortwo Electric Drive, and I’m running into an issue. The 12V battery was completely dead, so I replaced it. After swapping it out, the dashboard lit up with the message: “Drive system, Engine Off,” and now the car won’t run at all.

I tried clearing the codes using an MB Star program, but the error is still there. Has anyone experienced this before? Is there something specific I need to reset or calibrate after replacing the 12V battery?

I’d appreciate any suggestions to get the car back on the road. 🙏

Just curious, did the car come with the 12V battery already dead, or did it conk out after you got it? If it died later, how long did it take for you to notice?
