Hey, guys, what is the best way to keep the Smart Fortwo's roof (black fabric) in the best condition? Do I have to use anything special, like a specific detergent or something?
With my cloth roof, I gave the top a solid scrub with a soft-bristle brush and some fabric soap. After it dried, I applied several layers of Scotchgard for that extra protection. Haven’t had any issues at all.
For city life with all the dust and pollution, I’ve found it helps to rinse the roof weekly with clean water and gently wash it with a soft microfiber cloth and a mild soap (car wash soap works great). A couple of times a year, go for a proper convertible top cleaner to get rid of deeper dirt. And don’t forget a UV protectant, it’s a game-changer for keeping the fabric from fading or drying out, especially if your car is parked outside a lot. Easy maintenance goes a long way!
