Electric Mini/MGB Conversion. Thinking outside the box here coz I scored a fantastic Smart Fortwo ED and it's got me dreaming of electrifying an MGB or Mini. Anyone else out there tried this combo? Seems like a perfect donor package for a fun little runabout, but I haven't heard much chatter about it. Is there a glaring reason this wouldn't work that I'm overlooking?

Due to space limitations, swapping the entire motor and transaxle into an MGB would most likely need significant modifications. Even the motor alone may be a tight fit. In that case, would you consider using the orig MGB tranny?

The Smart Fortwo ED drivetrain could be a solid match for an MGB or Mini. Both are lightweight, so you’d probably get decent range and performance. Just make sure you plan out the motor mounts and battery placement carefully, those older cars weren’t designed with that kind of weight distribution in mind. You’ll also need to check if the Smart’s control systems can be adapted to work without all the factory sensors.
